Every year on 18 July, South Africans are encouraged to dedicate 67 minutes of their time to serving others in honour of Nelson Mandela’s legacy. At Badisa Trio, we believe that service is more than a once-off act of kindness, it is at the heart of everything we do.
This Mandela Day, our three offices embraced the spirit of service in different ways, each making a meaningful contribution to the communities we serve.
Our Bellville office participated in a preventative care event hosted by the Voortrekker Road Corridor CID, joining government departments, healthcare providers, community organisations, and NGOs with a shared vision of improving access to essential services. Events like these strengthen partnerships, promote prevention, and remind us that lasting change happens when communities work together.
Meanwhile, our Scottsdene team rolled up their sleeves to care for the environment by cleaning a local park where children gather to play. What began as a simple clean-up quickly became a community effort as children eagerly joined in, learning that every person has the power to make a positive difference. To leave a lasting reminder of hope and growth, the team also planted a tree—a symbol of our shared commitment to creating healthier, greener, and safer communities for future generations.
Service also took many other meaningful forms. Some of our staff members chose to spend their 67 minutes donating blood, giving the precious gift of life to people they may never meet. Others visited our fellow Badisa programme, Huis de Kuilen, where they assisted with preparing vegetables for residents’ meals. These simple acts of kindness reflected the compassion, generosity, and servant-hearted spirit that Nelson Mandela inspired.
Mandela Day reminds us that creating change does not always require grand gestures. Sometimes it is found in cleaning a park, sharing your time, donating blood, preparing a meal, or simply standing alongside others who are working to build stronger communities.
At Badisa Trio, child protection extends beyond our offices. It means helping to create communities where children can grow up in safe environments, families feel supported, and neighbours care for one another. Every act of kindness, no matter how small, contributes to that vision.
